Aiken fatal crash victim identified
A fatal car accident has been reported around 8 a.m. in Aiken County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The accident was reported in Savannah River Site, one mile from Highway 125.
According to a news release from Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, the victim was identified as 24 year old Lester Walker of Waynesboro.
Walker was traveling on SRS Road 1, approximately 1 mile off of Highway 125 near the Savannah River Site in a 2003 Chevy Malibu when he was struck head on by an oncoming 2001 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Cameron Williams of Augusta, the coroner said.
According to witnesses, Williams reported that he had fallen asleep prior to the crash, the coroner said. The extent of his injuries are not known at this time. He was transported to a Medical College of Georgia. This is the 17th fatal crash in Aiken County this year.
